This type of tear is often accompanied by muscle atrophy and stiffness, which can limit joint function and cause pain. In cases where traditional rotator cuff repair procedures are not effective, Dr. Nawaid Ahmed may recommend a newer surgical technique called Superior Capsular Reconstruction (SCR).<br \/>SCR involves the reconstruction of the shoulder joint&#8217;s superior capsule, which is the upper portion of the joint&#8217;s capsular lining, using a thick dermal patch. The procedure is performed arthroscopically, with the dermal patch being inserted into the shoulder joint and attached to the head of the humerus and the top of the glenoid, as well as to the front and back of the rotator cuff tendons.
